I've tried 3 variations of this recipe...chocolate/chocolate, white/vanilla and yellowish with vanilla and chocolate. (Brand the puddings separately, each with half the powdered sugar and milk. Use the vanilla to pour in the holes of the warm cake. Use the chocolate to frost.) Very much similar an extremely like shooting fish in a barrel Boston Creme Pie. Definately on my "keeper" list!

Very nice recipe! I used French Vanilla block with choc pudding. Put 1 pocket-size box instant choc with 1c milk over the pinnacle of the block. Then added another sm box choc pudding with 1c milk and 8oz of cool whip for the frosting. It is swell! Thanks!

What a fantastic care for! Unlike some of the skeptics (who may just take likewise much fourth dimension on their easily), I truly appreciate a recipe like this one - information technology's simple, quick, nonetheless very delicious. I used white block mix with pistachio pudding...didn't change a thing otherwise. My entire family LOVED information technology and it dissapeared in less than ii days. Thanks so much Karin!
01/07/2008
Everyone loves this cake. Although I usually go out out the sugar - I just use chocolate pudding downwardly the holes and "frost" the block with a chocolate pudding/cool whip combo.
05/15/2006
It doesn't get much easier than this! Although I exercise prefer the non-instant type pudding, which works just likewise, merely takes a little more fourth dimension. At that place are many combo possibilities with this recipe - assistant cake w/banana foam pudding, chocolate/chocolate, white cake/kokosnoot pudding, etc. Elevation w/whipped cream and you've got a super dessert!

This cake was very tasty and easy to make. I used white cake with assistant creme pudding which makes a very good combination. I have only one problem with this cake. The cup of confectioner's sugar makes it way also sweetness. I similar sweetness stuff equally much equally the adjacent gal, just next fourth dimension I'll either half the sugar or exit it out completely. Otherwise, this is a very nice, absurd, refreshing dessert. And my block wasn't gloopy either. It was at first, but I put it back in the fridge for nigh another hour and it was fine.
12/17/2003
Fantastic! I tried this recipe using vanilla block mix and pistachio pudding. It was fantastic and I liked the idea of topping the cake with pudding instead of thick, heavy frosting. This cake comes highly recommended. My family unit and I loved it.

This was such an easy recipe and sooo yummy. And light tasting. I hate, hate, hate frosting and icing and never use it because I like my cakes lighter. This is a gooey, most wet-block that is kind of difficult to serve to guests because it tends to autumn autonomously as yous are putting information technology in the serving dish, but my sister and i basically put the pan in front of us with ii spoons and ate ab out a quarter of it. It'southward best if it's refrigerated for several hours (if you lot tin can wait). Also, I did not use whatever of the recommended saccharide and it was sweet enough; I mixed each pudding parcel separately, first the one pack with the two cups of milk and poured the thin pudding into the holes and allowed the block to sit for nearly 10 minutes and so mixed the second pudding package with the milk and whipped until firmer...As well, I used only ane egg and ii egg-whitess and only i/4 cup of oil (instead of the 1/two) for the cake mix every bit it said on the box. I used Devil's food cake mix and vanilla pudding for the holes and banana pudding for the top...
08/05/2012
So many options with this recipe! Here is what I did: boxed pillsbury saccharide free cake mix (made for diabetic) saccharide gratis cheesecake pudding, I omitted confect. sugar and simply added a footling more than milk. Sugar gratuitous chocolate pudding with cool whip for frosting. I served with fresh strawberries/blueberries on acme. Huge hit! Thanks for the start. :)
01/19/2008
SHHHH!!! Don't tell my married man how easy this cake is to make! He thinks I slaved away making a fancy cake for him from scratch. I made it with a boxed butter cake mix and banana pudding for filling the holes and a chocolate pudding for the "frosting." Very much similar banana Boston Foam pie. Yummer-ific!
01/26/2011
Made a vanilla cake mix with a chocolate pudding combination in a bundt pan. Used a 14oz can (approx i loving cup) of condensed milk plus one cup of whole milk to set the pudding mixture, instead of mixing in the confectioner'south carbohydrate. Turned out great!
01/04/2011
Great cake! I used white cake, 2 pkgs of saccharide-free instant chocolate fudge pudding & 1/2 c. powdered sugar. (Side by side time I am not going to utilise any powdered saccharide.) I poured 1/2 the pudding on the warm cake. I added 1 - 8oz. chocolate cool whip to remaining pudding & put on the cake when information technology was cooled. Next time I am going to slice bananas on summit of the cake before I pour the remaining pudding mixture on top of it. Very Light & yummy.
12/02/2010
This is a really good cake! The only thing I did unlike was half the sugar in the pudding. I am a pudding lover so I didnt want to take away from my favorite part. So easy!!
x/05/2011
White block, pumpkin spice pudding. No added carbohydrate, except colored sugar sprinkled on superlative. My husband and my dad LOVED information technology. I'm taking it to my life group tonight. :) Thanks!! Picture uploaded.
04/30/2006
On of my husbands favorites...really piece of cake!!

01/thirteen/2012
Husband loved it. Just a little too rich. Will attempt again with vanilla pudding next time.
03/25/2008
This was quite a tasty block and a hit when nosotros took information technology to a dinner party! I was a little nervous most pouring the pudding over the warm cake (and then refrigerating it), simply I didn't need to worry! I used a yellow cake, 1 parcel of vanilla pudding, and frosted with chocolate frosting (melted/softened in the microwave, then information technology pours smoothly out of the can). It reminded the states of Boston Creme Pie. I didn't apply a wooden spoon handle because I thought the holes would be too big, but next time I will so the pudding is overnice and concentrated!
12/17/2010
Family loved this cake..Will definately make agian and will expirement with different cake mixes and puddings...
03/16/2004
Pretty good cake. A little too sweet with the powdered sugar, next time I would leave it out.
11/05/2004
This is Ok if you lot're simply looking for something quick to keep around the firm for your family. Tastes like box cake and instant chocolate pudding. Definitely not a recipe to serve to guests.

06/24/2009
This cake is fantastic and has and then many variations. I use lemon cake with lemon pudding, topped with cool whip. The best is yellow cake and cheesecake flavored pudding topped with cool whip. All-time if served really cold from the fridge. Awesome!
xi/07/2003
My daughters and I made this together and they had so much fun! I only added a touch of the 10X sugar and it came out simply right. I am not much of a frosting fan, so the pudding was a great way for me to enjoy cake. Cheers for the recipe!
01/04/2010
Squeamish modify and fun to make with my 3 y/o. After reading that you have to 'motion fast' or the pudding concept doesn't work well, I decided to endeavor and pipe the pudding into the holes, using metal decorating tip. Worked REALLY well and I made the Boston Cream version with fudge frosting on the top. Everyone was happy, frosting lovers and pudding lovers alike...looked lovely, too.
06/16/2010
I made this cake and was very skeptical. I accept never had a poke cake before. Some of the reviews said to non add together the confectioner'south sugar to the pudding because it was to sweet but I constitute it to exist the perfect combination. I made the cake exactly how they say to arrive except for the pudding. I used one package of pistachio and put chocolate pudding over that. I will brand this block again.
10/14/2003
Very yummy! I also make a cake similar to this one except you pour strawberry jello into the holes, chill, and top with cool whip and sliced fresh strawberries. A great treat on a hot mean solar day.
09/30/2005
Easy and fun to make. My grandchildren and I enjoyed it. Very of import non to overmix the pudding mix.
02/06/2011
Easy and tasted great! I fabricated the yellow with chocolate pudding as our first trial and the kids and my married man both similar it! Next fourth dimension I will effort the other variations...
08/21/2009
This was okay. Maybe making with regular rather than instant pudding would be better.
12/19/2002
This was a dandy thought. I still prefer the gelatin poke cake hands downwards. I probably wouldn't make this once more.
04/02/2009
Really good! My hubby hates frosting so he loved this cake. I used yellow cake, poured chocolate pudding(small-scale box with 2 cups of milk) over it and frosted with a small box of vanilla pudding mix with ane cup of milk, a teaspoon of vanilla extract and then folded into absurd whip. Thanks for sharing!
04/08/2003
This is a bang-up dessert for a warm 24-hour interval. I used the recommendations by others by not using the confectioners sugar. It turned out great, it would've been way besides sweet with the saccharide! I'm interested in trying different pudding & cake flavors. Thank you Karin!
03/xxx/2010
I fabricated this cake last night with choclate cake, banana pudding filler and choclate pudding for the pinnacle. Information technology turned out pretty expert. The kids loved it. Wonderfully piece of cake and tastes similar Boston cream pie! I used 1 package of white chocolate and one of milk chocolate.
09/04/2009
This is then awesome, Ive fabricated this cake for years similar this:Cake, Pudding, and Cool Whip) But I never thought to poke the holes in the block, Its Great! When I would make it the sometime fashion the cake was so tall it would only fall over when you tried to eat it, Now the kids honey the strips and no mess for me!...I use straws to brand the holes, the toothpics arent big enough and when y'all use a fork the puddin just blobs together...Thanx
08/10/2002
This was a good recipe simply information technology did seem a little goopy. My kids loved it. What was adept about information technology was that you didn't have to use a yellowish cake. I used a devil's food cake and vanilla pudding.
07/08/2012
I made this for my family unit and they loved it!! But I did brand some changes, NO sugar, I used one cup milk 1 box kokosnoot, poured into the holes and top of cake, and then another small bx kokosnoot pudding with 1 cup milk and small-scale whip topping alloy and frost cake, arctic and relish
06/30/2016
Yes I used pecans (chopped finely) in the block mix. Used Pistachio pudding and vanilla butter foam icing. Has to be in fridge to set up before serving.
02/21/2011
Amazing! Moist!
01/12/2013
yum. ridiculously piece of cake and the kids always love this. zippo i would make to serve to anyone special, but easy to do on the weekends with the kids. thanks!
08/02/2010
Groovy idea! Definitely utilize a wooden spoon (or similar) to poke the holes because the cake will soak up some of the pudding. The "frosting" was fine but I remember next fourth dimension I will endeavour vanilla pudding in the holes and employ a chocolate ganache frosting for the meridian - easy/pseudo Boston cream "pie!"
06/09/2010
Delicious. Very refreshing.
09/24/2005
I made this using chocolate cake & wanilla pudding. The but change I fabricated was to add together a splash of almond extract to the pudding mixture. My married man loved it! Quick and easy.
02/11/2013
Used non-instant chocolate pudding mix, and two cups of milk. And who needs to wait an hour until information technology chills? Non us!
xi/20/2002
A family unit favorite for years.I generally add a layer of prepared vanilla instant pudding before adding the chocolate pudding. Skip the additional sugar. This baby doesn't need it!
07/20/2003
Made information technology for my beau'due south Bday, he loved it! He's a chocolate lover, and so I used an organic devil's nutrient cake mix from the wellness food store, then used Jello chocolate pudding. Information technology was super-soupy (peradventure I used the wrong size pudding mix, or maybe it was the skim milk?), and the 'stripes' weren't so obvious, but information technology was and then moist and delicious!
06/25/2009
I wanted to make this for my children equally I have such fond memories of my mother making it every bit we were children. Nobody ate this in my house, and it didn't taste as adept equally I remember. I retrieve my kids are used to the sweetness taste of frosting.
01/30/2006
Favorite Dessert. We love the yellow block with banana pudding. Before serving we tiptop with fresh banana and kiwi slices and and so absurd whip. yummy!
eleven/30/2007
I used carbohydrate gratis pudding, no fatty milk and nigh half of the powdered carbohydrate. I also topped it off with Heath Bar Bites. Had 8 over for luncheon and everyoe honey it. I volition brand this again and once more. Very easy and DELICIOUS!!
06/01/2014
I fabricated this with white block mix (all I had on manus) and chocolate pudding mix. Took information technology to a potluck and it was devoured! Keeper.
06/01/2007
I loved it. It was refreshing. I used a chocolate cake mix and banana pudding and on height I mixed white chocolate pudding with 8oz whip cream, and it was yummy, simply I used only 1/ii cup powder sugar and for the cake mix I used apple sauce instead the oil, the cake was moist. Thank yous for sharing your recipe!
12/07/2001
I made this for my altogether today :) wanting something dissimilar and thats exactly what I got. Something skilful for once. I was very nervous the whole fourth dimension making this cake. "What!? Poke holes in the warm block?! Cascade pudding over it?!?! Put information technology in the fridge?!?! yikes!! But no worries, it all worked out fine! A new experience for me. It was very moist and proficient. Not messy at all.
05/23/2002
I loved it. Moist, healthier than frosting, festive. My hubby didn't care for it merely he doesn't similar things that are "likewise sweet" (is there any such thing?) I made the cake with egg whites instead of eggs and never missed the fat due to the pudding.
02/02/2011
Yum, what fun. reminds of the block my aunt Leslie would always make when I was little. I fabricated this today for the group home I work for. Yea, snow day!!!! Anyway, my guys loved information technology. I blended in well-nigh 1/4 c natural peanutbutter into the last half of pudding then spread it on peak. Serouisly yummy. Thanks
06/30/2012
Good and super easy block! Used white cake, banana pudding for the "pokes" and chocolate pudding for the "Icing". Omitted the powdered sugar and constitute that it was perfect without information technology. Per others suggestions, make sure that you refridgerate the block earlier serving to allow it to gear up upwardly! Volition definitely try it again with a different block/pudding combo.
03/29/2008
I did not savor this cake. Information technology tasted just okay and I would not serve information technology to guests. There are too many other wonderful recipes on this site.
11/06/2002
Like shooting fish in a barrel to make...kids love it...very versatile! I added a layerof cool whip to the top! You tin utilise fatty free milk & whipped topping for fewer calories.
06/19/2012
I love this type of cake! My famliy is allergic to many things so I used this with homeade cake and pudding.
09/03/2007
A care for! Easy to make and gustation wonderful! Thanks
05/27/2002
This recipe is easy as can be and well received by all ages. The pudding equally a "frosting" is a refreshing alternative. I used skim milk for the pudding and it was wonderful.
02/14/2009
My best friend's mom gave me this recipe over twenty years ago and I've made it with rave reviews ever since. Super easy to make, and I always have the stuff on hand. Thanks!
02/12/2014
I have no idea what I did wrong, but this came out equally a yellow block, soggy with chocolate pudding.. I fifty-fifty re read the directions, double checked the box sizes and what I measured. I'yard stubborn enough to try again though.
10/07/2001
Perfect for people who are not big frosting fans, but besides wonderful for the residue of usa. I tried chocolate cake with cheescake flavored pudding. Information technology was delicious.
07/22/2019
First-class like shooting fish in a barrel quick dessert! I did yellow cake with chocolate pudding. My only modify was to leave out the sugar. It is sweet enough. Serve with whipped foam.
x/29/2010
Fabricated this recipe for a work carry in. Very easy and succulent. This has become a new favorite. I used a chocolate cake and chocolate pudding.
01/01/2010
Made this to accept over for a potluck tiffin with a few friends, and it was a hit. It was a good, elementary recipe to make and uses what yous probably already have in your pantry. I didn't accept 2 packs of chocolate pudding and then I filled the poke holes with chocolate pudding and then "frosted" with a box of vanilla pudding and 2 cups of milk.
11/04/2008
I made this with the "Butter Cake" recipe from this site, and information technology was perfect! I didn't want the cake to exist too heavy, and the pudding was a great way to balance out the texture. Thanks.
09/04/2001
Used white block mix with banana pudding, therefore it did not wait striped when cut, yet cake was moist and tasty. Used eight x eleven cake pan so sides were a little dry out (recommend 9 x thirteen) also had extra pudding left over after frosting. For diversity adding chopped nuts to the top. Will make again in proper pan using chocolate and vanilla flavors.
01/14/2009
I was making a different recipe that needed egg yolks, and so I had these egg whites? Light bulb 'white block'. This is a nice dessert. Two of my sons favorites. Cake & pudding. I new this would be a striking. Made it just the mode the recipe said.
03/15/2010
I made some simple substitutions and made this for a low cal dessert for my family. I used reduced sugar yellow cake mix, fabricated with egg whites, applesauce and water. I also used sugar free chocolate pudding for the topping. And so I topped it with a dollop of sugar free cool whip. My family had no idea that it was pretty good for you treat. YUM!
01/xiii/2008
This is an one-time pudding recipe that I accept loved for years. I employ the white cake mix and my family merely LOVES it!
08/03/2008
yum!
07/27/2019
I didn't modify a thing. My married man loves information technology! Information technology's a dainty, cool dessert later on a skilful dinner.
03/19/2009
An excellent, easy to make cake! I fabricated mine with yellowish cake and vanilla pudding. I put chocolate icing on peak, since I was going for a boston cream pie effect. I would only recommend doing that if y'all are not flooding the top of the cake with pudding... information technology turned in to a mess. A very succulent mess, simply information technology didn't look pretty.
03/07/2008
My mom fabricated this when I was a child so I've been looking for the recipe. This is so easy and then yummy. A huge hit with everyone at Bible study.
04/18/2009
Although I am older than 10, I am glad for this recipe. This is one I did when I was younger, just needed to "think" the finer points, such as poke the holes when the cake was warm, pour pudding when thin, etc. Yes this is simple, just it is SOOO skillful. Thanks again for posting it!! Oh, and the "boston creme" variation? WOW! yummy :)
10/25/2009
Ok. This is office 1 of 2 reviews....I absolutely HATE cake with sweeter than sweet frosting!!! And so this cake sounded good, as did the Dump block from another recipe on here. Since I couldn't make up one's mind which sounded better I'm combining the 2. Using Butter cake mix, mixing as directed on the box. I have dropped and "knifed in" ruddy pie filling into information technology. When it's finished I'm using Chocolate pudding (same way as in this poke block), and so will use the 2nd pudding to mix with cool whip to top the cake. Sounds yummy to me!!! Will post to tell yous how it turns out!!!
12/25/2013
While this is good, it tin can be a very overpowering dessert. We prefer the gelatin/cake combination.
ten/02/2007
I like this cake - it's easier than frosting and I call up it'south a little healthier; I don't go that sugar-rush ill feeling that I usally go from eating frosted block. I've made this recipe a few times with white cake and pistachio pudding (I phone call information technology "Shrek Cake"), and I once forgot to add together the confectioner's sugar to the pudding, and the cake was still great. Cheers for the recipe, Karin, we love it!
06/21/2019
I made a diabetic version of this cake, using a saccharide free cake mix (I used yellow) and sugar gratis chocolate pudding. I eliminated the confectioner's sugar and made the puddings in ii batches. For the filling, I made the pudding as directed on the parcel just added about 1/3 more than milk. I poured it over the cake while it was warm. Then I made the other box of pudding exactly as directed on the package, let information technology set for 5 minutes, then "frosted" the cake with information technology. My family loved it, diabetics and non-diabetics alike! Very light, cool, summery type of cake. Thanks!
03/05/2010
I followed this recipe EXACTLY every bit written and the pudding was like chocolate-brown schoolhouse paste. Is in that location an error in the size pudding box? iii.9 ounce box is the big box and uses 4 cups of milk each, correct? The small-scale boxes utilise ii cups of milk. The pudding had an unpleasant taste and could not exist poured over the cake using 4 cups of milk and two boexs of pudding (3.9 oz. each) I hate wasting all that milk, eggs and oil. Will endeavour once again with 2 small boxes of pudding merely because my daughter wants this block for her altogether
09/xiv/2000
Great recipe! I tried information technology with lemon cake and lemon pudding......oh so good!! Thanks for sharing!
04/09/2017
my kids loved this.
10/21/2007
Made this for something different and easy. It is delicious
07/10/2010
I love this cake. it's so refreshing in the summer fourth dimension. I but made information technology with yellowish block mix and pudding and instead of but whip foam I put vannilla pudding in with 1 loving cup of milk and 1 tsp of vannilla extract. allow it chill in the fridge. thanks.
02/17/2001
Very easy & delicious!
ten/23/2000
This was a very like shooting fish in a barrel cake to make so moist. I might cut down on the milk just a niggling next time past no more than that ane/4 cup less.
09/22/2015
My married man requested this for his birthday and said information technology was exactly what he wanted. I recollect information technology's fine, only he was happy.
02/xx/2009
I made cupcakes instead...good concept, but if you're not prepared to pour the pudding and you lot wait too long- the pudding just sits on height of the cupcakes...so at that place's need to frost...I didn't employ the powdered sugar and so information technology'southward non likewise sweet at all.
03/09/2014
not certain what happened. the pudding never thickened. fortunately, i realized it pretty chop-chop and didn't uses the remainder of the pudding;the cake survived and wasn't soggy, thankfully! simply it was a waste of milk!
05/17/2010
I probably wouldn't make this block for company, but for an easy weeknight dessert for the family, this was great. I used a white cake mix that I made with a parcel of vanilla pudding, three eggs, and one three/4 cup water - no oil. Baked and then poked pretty large holes all over the superlative. Poured chocolate pudding mixture over - made with sugar complimentary pudding mix and let sit. I really preferred the gustation and consistency of this earlier information technology went in the refrigerator. It was but gooier and melted in your rima oris. Overall, this is an piece of cake, tasty dessert.
05/thirty/2018
I was looking for something quick on a hot mean solar day, so I fabricated this since I had all the ingredients. Information technology came out great, I followed other reviews and used one-half the saccharide. However, I made it again yesterday and all it did was absorb the pudding and become a watery mess. Stubborn, and thinking I had made a mistake, I tried once again today. Same RESULTS! Just, I figured out the problem is with the brand of instant pudding. The offset fourth dimension when it was crawly, I had Hershey'due south Instant pudding on paw. This time, I had Royal and information technology didn't come out. Definitely, check the pudding you lot are going to use if information technology doesn't start thickening at all while mixing don't try information technology! Let it thicken in the fridge a bit first.
05/30/2000
bully to accept to a picnic or wherever!
08/twenty/2001
This was so adept! I used a white cake with assistant cream pudding.. yummy!
